Leadership Development Community Leadership Development Training Project The Road to Recovery
The Community Leadership Development Training Project was established in the 2000 to identify and respond to the training and capacity building needs of economically disadvantaged congregations in rural and poor communities throughout the south. Creation of the school was essential in that many of these historic centers of community activity and culture were destroyed by acts of racially motivated violence or malicious intent. Consequently, when the church building was destroyed all community programs were temporarily disrupted.
The primary objectives of this project are to document programs in place before the fires, assess training needs, and assist recovering congregations in reestablishing community ministries. The program was designed to be versatile enough to respect the need for different levels of learning to promote self sufficiency, develop skills and nurture leadership growth.
During the project start up phase NCBC successfully accomplished the following:
· Worked with 125 congregations from 22 states; · Completed community survey needs assessment; · Published a community leadership survey resource report; · Conducted field visits for peer learning experiences; · Convened the first three-day community leadership training school.
Our commitment is to take the training project experience wherever participants feel comfortable learning and to assist communities in reestablishing or establishing community ministries that address issues of poverty and to promote the self development of all people.
