Celebrating 10 Years!
Dear Friends:
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! On behalf of the board of directors, staff, members, volunteers and friends of the National Coalition we are excited as we thank God for sustaining this ministry.
This year we are pleased to announce that the National Coalition is Celebrating 10 Years of dedicated commitment to church burning response and recovery. We invite you to join us and share in this historic occasion. The celebration will be held December 13-15, 2007 at the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. Events include a Thursday evening Worship and Candle lighting Service at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Auburn Avenue. On Friday, a National Church Burning Status Conference is scheduled to increase public awareness about communities’ struggles today. The celebration will climax with a gala fundraising banquet to honor some of the nations most dedicated men and women who have made great sacrifices and tremendous contributions to this cause.
Over the ten-year period, NCBC has documented more than 2500 arson, bombing and suspicious fire incidents across the nation. Through our Victim Support program we have traveled to more than 500 burned church sites to provide support to congregations Rising from the Ashes!!!
Our work continues as we monitor and document church burning activity nationwide. We are currently assisting with rebuilding churches in Alabama and Mississippi, which are examples of cases that underscore the importance of our work. For instance, in Alabama, a small African American church was torched in 1997 by young people, who days earlier attended a Klan rally totally destroying this church and attempting to destroy a church nearby. Ten years later we are proud to coordinate volunteer teams to help them finally rebuild. In Mississippi, an African American congregation has been victimized by arson on several occasions since 2004, in addition to suffering damage from Hurricane Katrina. The congregation was shocked to know that volunteers would “come from so far” just to help rebuild their church home. Now more than ever we are committed to increasing public awareness and supporting congregations throughout the recovery process.
As a small, self-supporting non-profit organization donations at any level make a difference. We have grand hopes that you will join us in celebrating the first decade of our work. For more details click Celebrating 10 Years.
Yours in Christ,
Rev. Terrance G. Mackey, Sr.
