Research, Data Collection and Monitoring
The Church Burning Research Project was established to document church burning and bombing activity nationwide. We are committed to increasing our capacity to develop long term strategies to research and analyze these incidents; alert the public of reoccurring patterns of activity; and to develop effective strategies to provide victim support to help communities heal. NCBC continues to:
Alert the public of reoccurring patterns of activity by issuing press announcements, briefing papers and holding periodic gatherings;
Serves as a clearinghouse for information on church burnings nationwide;
Research and document names, areas of geographic impact and circumstances surrounding fires at all churches suspected of or proven to be motivated by racial hatred, religious intolerance or gender bias;
Conduct research on statutes including federal civil action, criminal arson laws, and interference with religious worship, institutional vandalism, anti-conspiracy laws, and ethnic intimidation.
